GARY TOMKINS COLLECTS JAN CORCORAN MEMORIAL 64 WIN; PAUL GUERERRI, PETE STEFANSKI, AND CHRIS MANGARELLI ALSO CLAIM WINS

Canandaigua, NY – Saturday, April 19, 2014 - It was a clear but chilly night at Canandaigua Motorsports Park as fans gathered for the 4th annual Jan Corcoran Memorial event.  Paying $6400 to the winner, the 64 lap Big Block Modified main was star-studded as the who’s who of DIRTcar Modified racers converged at the Land of Legends.  Promoters Jeremie and Lori Corcoran enjoyed a very successful start to the 2014 season thanks to the many fans that filled the grandstands.

Gary Tomkins of Clifton Springs, NY kicked off his season on a winning note as he captured the big win last Saturday night. Tomkins used lapped traffic to his advantage and took the point position away from Steve Paine on lap twenty. Tomkins would hold off a hard charging Billy Dunn through the late stages to claim one of the biggest events of the season.  Tomkins piloted his Bicknell chassis sponsored by Pole Position Raceway, Fox’s Auto, and Brewer Construction to a very popular win.  “My hats off to the crew – man they worked their butts off to get the car done,” commented Tomkins.  “Wow the car was just great.”

2013 Syracuse 200 winner Billy Dunn finished in the runner up position after starting ninth.  Jimmy Phelps appeared to be the fastest car on the track in the final laps as he came from deep in the pack to claim the third position followed by defending track champion Matt Sheppard. Billy Decker was the hard charger as he advanced from his twenty-fourth starting position to score a top five finish.  After leading the first nineteen laps, Paine would score sixth aboard his Hig Fab Chassis.

Paul Guererri of Geneva, NY topped the field in the Safety Awareness Solutions Sportsman twenty-five lap main event. Guererri took the lead at the drop of the green aboard his Tri County Excavating/Proctor Roofing/Bruno Flooring sponsored 7g and held it the entire distance. The two time champion piloted his Troyer chassis to his thirty-sixth feature win at the Land of Legends. Guererri would be challenged in the late stages by Tyler Meeks but to no avail as contact with the front stretch wall ended Meeks night early.   “It’s always nice to get the first one out of the way,” commented Guererri.  “Many thanks to my crew, family and sponsors.”

Dan Wiesner claimed the second position aboard the Sweeting owned 11j.  Guererri brothers Matt and Nick put on a great show for the fans as they battled side by side to the line with Matt taking third.  Nick would finish fourth followed by Ron Davis III.

Pete Stefanski of North Tonawanda, NY captured the win in the fifteen lap Parts Plus Prostreet main event.  Piloting his Sunrise Racing/PJ Trailer Sales #2 entry, Stefanski would lead all fifteen laps after taking the lead on lap one from the outside front row starting position.  Stefanski indicated he will call CMP his home track on Saturdays for 2014. Nine time CMP champion Mike Welch scored second aboard his Investors Services/Gevo’s Rears and Gears sponsored 00 followed by Glenn Forward, Jake Kadowski, and Steve Pasarek.

Chris Mangarelli captured the win in the New Legends Sportsman fifteen lap main.  Mangarelli made it three wide on lap eight with Tim Baker and Dan Heschke.  Using the inside lane, Mangarelli would claim the top spot.  Mangarelli would not be challenged the remainder of the event as he cruised to victory.  James Sweeting, Dan Heschke, Austin Fugle, and Jimmy Morton rounded out the top five.

Notes – racing will resume this coming Saturday, April 26th with a full card of Big Block Modifieds, Safety Awareness Solutions Sportsman, Parts Plus Prostreets, Dig Safely NY 305 Race Saver Sprints, Pure Stocks, and New Legends Sportsman.    The Big Block Modifieds, Pure Stocks, and New Legends Sportsman need sponsors – want to gain maximum exposure with minimal expense?  Call Jeremie to ask about sponsoring one of these great divisions.

KEVIN RIDLEY, NICK COOPER, AND CJ GUERERRI CLAIM WINS AT CANANDAIGUA MOTORSPORTS PARK

Canandaigua, NY – Friday, April 18th – The 51st Season Opener at the Land of Legends kicked off this past Friday night as DC Rauscher presented the 4th annual Jan Corcoran memorial 2 day event.  Friday hosted a full card of Safety Awareness Solutions Sportsman, Dig Safely NY 305 Race Saver Sprints, and the Pure Stocks along with timed hot laps for the Big Block Modifieds.

Kevin Ridley of Waterloo, NY went home with a cool Grand last Friday night after scoring the win in the thirty-five lap Safety Awareness Solutions Sportsman feature event.  Ridley took control at the drop of the green and led all but three circuits to claim the win.  The defending champion has two titles to date at the Land of Legends – 2008 and 2013 and has a total of eighteen wins.  “The car was fantastic,” commented Ridley in victory lane. “It was a little tight in the heat so we made a small adjustment.  Man it was fast.” Ridley captured the win aboard his Fred’s Fold & Fab, Milts Precision Collision, and Foxy Tan sponsored #20x Bicknell Chassis.  Dan Weisner, Greg Martin, Paul Guererri, and Nick Guererri rounded out the top five.

Ridley set the quick pace early on with Martin giving chase.  On the move was Dave Marcucilli who advanced from his eighth place starting position to post second on lap six. Three circuits later would find Marcuculli taking the top spot away from Ridley.  Unfortunately for Dave, his night would come to an early end on lap twelve as he came to a stop on the back stretch.  Ridley would inherit the point position and show the way through the checkered. Wiesner advanced from the eleventh position to score second followed by outside pole sitter Martin who claimed third.  A total of twenty-five took the initial green while thirty-one entries signed in pitside.

Nick Cooper of Stanley, NY took top honors aboard the Dig Safely NY 305 Race Saver Sprint main event. Cooper took advantage of his front row starting position and gained the lead on lap one.  Cooper would not be denied as he led the entire twenty circuits on his way to scoring the first win of the 2014 season aboard his Great Clips sponsored #35n.  Darryl Ruggles advanced from the third starting position to post second at the checkered.  Bob Dresty, Alysha Ruggles, and Steve Doell rounded out the top five. Brandon Warner of Syracuse, NY collected the turn four wall on lap ten bringing out the red flag.  Brandon was ok but the same couldn’t be said for his racer.

CJ Guererri of Geneva, NY took the win aboard the fifteen lap Pure Stock feature main. The race was without a doubt the race of the night as the top three of Guererri, Vance Vanderwall and Steve Austin swapped the lead several times in the final five laps keeping fans on the edge of their seats.  At the checkered it would be Guererri by half a car length at the line over Austin and Vanderwall.  Defending champion Marc Minutolo claimed fourth followed by Rob Murray who made the trip in from Ontario, Canada.

By virtue of setting fast time in the second hot lap session, Steve Paine of Waterloo, NY earned the fourth place starting position for the 64 lap $6400 to win Jan Corcoran Memorial to be held on Saturday.   Paine piloted a brand new Higfab chassis sponsored by Talmadge Tire and Swarthout Recyling.  Justin Haers of Phelps, NY earned the sixth place starting position by setting the second quickest time.

Wet Start to 2014 season at Canandaigua Motorsports Park (April 1, 2014)

Mother Nature has had a different plan than us for the start of the 2014 racing season at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. Open practice that was scheduled for Saturday April 5th was postponed to Tuesday April 8th, and today we have had to cancel that.

Jeremie Corcoran says the track itself is in pretty good shape and could be ready with just a few dry days. The Pit area and Parking is a different story. The heavy snow that we got on Saturday March 29th has saturated these areas so much that haulers and cars would not fare well.

We are still hopeful to kick off our regular season on Saturday April 12th at 6:00pm with a full card of Big Block Modifieds, Safety Awareness Solutions Sportsman, Parts Plus Pro/Street Stocks, Dig Safely 305 Sprints, Pure Stocks, and New Legends Sportsman.

We will evaluate ground conditions over the weekend and keep you informed.

If you have any questions you may contact Greg Emerson at 585-624-1509 or email greg@bigmotormedia.com.

IMPORTANT RULE CHANGE REMINDERS FOR SPORTSMAN and 305 SPRINTS

For the 2014 season at Canandaigua Motorsports Park we have made a few adjustments to the rules for the Sportsman and for the 305-4 Wheelers.

The Sportsman will be required to be on a Modified tire (Hoosier) by June 7th race night at CMP. You may begin the season on Mod tires or continue to run the Sportsman tire until that cutoff date.
You may run either steel OR aluminum wheels. If you are running steel wheels the weight is 2350#. If you are running aluminum wheels your weight must be 2400#.

The 4 wheelers for the the 305 Sprints MUST have a one way radio. We have listened to some of your concerns with the 4 wheelers and are allowing you to go back to your pits instead of the infield which is why we are requiring the one way radio.

If you have any car tech questions please call our Head of Tech, Jim Hixson at 585-414-6693. Any other race specific questions should be directed to Race Director Greg Hixson at 315-945-8800

Along with the seven wins, Sheppard also had 14 top ten five finishes and told the audience that he would be back again at CMP in 2014.

Canandaigua Motorsports Park 2014 ProStreet Stocks

After some very deliberate considerations, CMP Promoter, Jeremie Corcoran, has decided on some signficant changes to this class.
For the 2014 season, CMP is adopting Can Am's and Utica/Rome's Pro Stock rules. Canandaigua Motorsports Park will not have its own rules for its ProStreet Stock Class. Competitors at CMP will be allowed to run either of these rule packages, or a combination of the two. (View the Rules page to download the current rules.)
The goal at CMP is to open up this class to additional competitors and bring some unity in rules. We are aware that this decision will be welcomed by some, and not by others. It is our intention to do what is best for the class as a whole.
Visit the rules page for full details.
Any questions regarding these changes, please contact Tech Director, Jim Hixson at (585) 414-6693.

Canandaigua Motorsports Park 305 Sprints add Black Rock Speedway to their 2014 Schedule.

Canandaigua, NY – Oct. 24, 2013 – Dave Roberts, Canandaigua Motorsports Park PR Correspondent
After running their first full season in 2013 at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park in Canandaigua, NY, the 305 Sprints will be added to nearby Black Rock Speedway and it's 2014 schedule.
The quick open wheel race division that produced fast speeds on the high banks at Canandaigua Motorsports Park is figuring to do the same at the Dundee.New York based one-third mile oval. The additional track is figuring to also add competitors to the program.
The division will continue under the RaceSaver sanction for both tracks.
"This will be an excellent division for both tracks," said CMP track promoter Jeremie Corcoran. "I know that Dean Hoag (Black Rock track owner) is looking forward to having the class at his track on Friday nights."
"They should be fast here," said Hoag of his Black Rock Speedway. "I figure that they should do lap times in the fourteen second range, which is pretty fast at our track."
While plans are still in the beginning stages, stay tuned to both canandaiguamotorsportspark.com and blackrockspeedway.com for more information. More on the 305 Sprints will be released as off-season plans continue.

Pure Stocks to Remain the Same at CMP for 2014.

The Pure Stocks will return to Canandaigua Motorsports Park in 2014 with no changes to the rules. We are excited to have this group of competitors back racing at the Land of Legends for the 2014 season.

We will have an announcement about the Street Stock class, and some rule adjustments for the 2014 season, in a few weeks.
