DANNY JOHNSON FINDS VICTORY LANE IN THRILLER; TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED NEXT SATURDAY
CANANDAIGUA, NY- It was a fight to the bitter end before “The Doctor”
Danny Johnson completed the operation and won the action-packed 35 lap
DIRTcar big block Modified feature besting Steve Paine by just 0.536
seconds last night at Canandaigua Speedway. This was Johnson’s first win
in three years at the “Land of Legends” and by no means did it come
easy. The four-time track champion took the lead on lap 13 with Steve
Paine in tow, but during Paine’s multiple failed attempts to get by
Johnson he would move back to a three car lead. After a lap 32 caution
stacking up the field for a three lap shootout to decide the winner,
Paine moved up beside Johnson on the inside lane as the banged nerf bars
in turn 2 and all the way down the backstretch. Johnson was able to
make some room as the pair hit again at the start finish line on lap 33
to keep a safe distance and take the checkered flag. Following the race,
Paine showed his displeasure with Johnson’s driving style and hit the
Rochester Americans/Honeoye Auto Parts sponsored car from the rear as
they moved down the backstretch, causing a stir in the packed
grandstands. Victory Lane was “electric” as fans made their way to the
fence only to witness “The Doctor” thanking his sponsors and stating, “I
guess someone had to teach him (Paine) a lesson” setting up a “sequel”
next Saturday for Championship night. Charlie Donk, Justin Haers and
Chad Homan rounded out the top 5.
The DIRTcar Sportsman put on another great show for
the fans as Kevin Ridley took the victory over second place Dan
Wiesner. Rob Bussey was third while Greg Cool and Loren Lincoln rounded
of the top five.
Chris Fisher took home the checkered flag in the
DIRTcar Stock Car feature putting him one step closer to taking the
points lead from Frank Burnell Jr. Burnell struggled most of the night
causing two caution flags, finally finding a home in fifth position at
the conclusion of the 20-lap dash. Andy Fisk led eight of the twenty
laps finishing a half of car length behind Fisher. Nate Peckham finished
third and John Zimmerman fourth.
Current point leader Alex Morris took another win in
the Pure Stock feature and solidified his strangle-hold on the 2010
track championship at the ‘Land of Legends’. Andrew Smith second and
rounding out the top five was Ross Lurcock, Roger Bush and George LaVare
Jr.
The final showdown of the season will take place
next Saturday as Canandaigua Speedway will play host to the first night
of the tri-track Labor Day weekend race fest deemed Championship
Weekend. The DIRTcar Modifieds, Sportsman, Stock Cars and Pure Stocks
will all be featured during the double points Championship night. Fans
will be treated to a 50-lap, $3,000-to-win Modified feature, the sequel
to the battle between “The Doctor” Danny Johnson and “The Hurricane”
Steve Paine, as well as the ever popular 30-lap Parts Plus DIRTcar Stock
Car Tri-Track Series by Wix Filters feature. “The DIRTcar Stock cars
continue to put the best racing week in and week out” says General
Manger Cory Reed. Coming off a season high 16 competitors two weeks ago,
the track will offer “Home Track” rules. Stock cars are encouraged to
bring their home track rule book to Canandaigua next Saturday where they
will be legal. Drivers will draw for their starting positions in the
heats with the top finishers in each heat drawing for their 30-lap,
$300-to-win starting position. “I expect this event to be one of our
biggest of the 2010 season for the class”, continues Reed.
Racing will continue into Sunday night for the Super
DIRTcar Series drivers in the Labor Day 100 at Cayuga County Fair
Speedway including the Sportsman, Stock Cars and Battlekarz as they
partake in double point championship night. This will be a huge
opportunity to see the series best in Brett Hearn, Billy Decker and Ryan
Phelps while you wait to see if Jimmy Phelps can take over Matt
Sheppard for the track championship.
The final night of Labor Day weekend action takes
place Monday at Rolling Wheels Raceway. Fans will be given the
opportunity to save $2 off their general admission ticket when they
bring a ticket stub from any local track. Racing action will feature
the 60-lap $4,000-to-win Big Block Modifieds plus the DIRTcar Sportsman
and Stock Cars in the Robert N. Petrocci Memorial event.

SUPER MATT EDGES OUT THE DOCTOR FOR A TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO CANADAIGUA SPEEDWAY
CANANDAIGUA, NY- As the 2010 racing season is winding down, the racing
excitement was in full force at Canandaigua Speedway Saturday. The
night began when all Fire and Rescue personnel were honored Saturday
night with free admission. “It’s our way of thanking those who risk
their lives every day,” says DIRTcar Northeast General Manager Corry
Reed.
Excitement took to the track as the BRP Late
Models kicked off the night with their third and final appearance at
the ‘Land of Legends’ during their BRP CanAm Black Rock/Canandaigua
Late Model Challenge. Jim Johnson took his first checkered flag of
the season after a 20 lap battle. Johnson battled with rookie Adam
DePuy for 15 of those laps until a flat rear tire caused DePuy to fall
to the back. Jeff Cheseboro finished the battle with Johnson taking
second. Brian Kotaoski took third with Wayne Robertson and John Rivers
rounding out your top five.
Matt Sheppard made a triumphant return to
Canandaigua Speedway with an exciting victory in the 35 lap DIRTcar
big block Modified feature. Sheppard and Danny Johnson put on a great
show in the last half of the event. On lap 32 and a high amount of
lapped traffic, Sheppard got by Johnson, who had led since lap 13 and
went on to win by 1.679 second better than Johnson at the finish line.
Third was Steve Paine followed by Charlie Donk in fourth and Justin
Haers in fifth. A great field of 25 DIRTcar big block Modifieds signed
in at the pit gate.
Justin Henderson was fast on the half mile
Canandaigua Speedway half-mile racing surface, winning the 25 lap
DIRTcar Sportsman feature. Henderson had a battle to the finish with
second place finisher Greg Cool. Paul Guererri took third with Dan
Wiesner fourth and Kane Bristol third.
Stock Cars were added to Saturday night’s
racing program after being left off the original schedule. “The Stock
Car class has consistently been the best racing on the track week in
and week out at The Land of Legends and we have been very pleased with
the growth of the class in recent weeks”, said Cory Reed, Track G.M.
“I can’t see leaving them at home for a week coming off their two
best weeks of the season.” The Stock Cars proved once again to be the
best racing on the track as Mike Rasbeck won for his second time of the
season in the 20 lap Stock Car feature. Rasbeck had the pole position,
giving up the lead to Andy Fisk until lap 8 when he took it back and
never got rid of it. Rasbeck finished two car lengths ahead of Frank
Burnell Jr at the finish. Third was John Zimmerman with Nate Peckham
fourth and Mike Welch fifth.
Brian Lyon won the Pure Stock feature with
Alex Morris taking second. Rounding out the top five were Andy Smith,
George LaVare Jr. and Ross Lurcock.

BELLINGER TAKES HIS FIRST CANANDAIGUA SPEEDWAY CAREER WIN
CANANDAIGUA, NY- Racing excitement continued Saturday night at
Canandaigua Speedway. Saturday was Law Enforcement recognition night
at the Speedway with all law enforcement personnel admitted free with
proper id. This special was one more way Canandaigua Speedway is able
to say thank you to the local men and women who serve and protect the
community.
Once again, the track maintenance crew gave
the race competitors a great track surface. Two and three wide racing
in all four divisions had the fans on their feet cheering their
favorite driver. In addition to that, blue skies greeting both drivers
and race fans. It was a win-win for everyone.
As the racing action took to the track Rob
Bellinger not only won his first career Canandaigua Speedway DIRTcar
big block 35 lap Modified feature last Saturday night, he also had to
hold off the current points leader Steve Paine at the finish line.
Bellinger led for much of the feature while Paine had to move through
the pack. On lap 29, the yellow came out putting Paine on Bellinger’s
rear bumper. Bellinger, however, got a good jump on the restart and
held on for the victory. With Paine holding on for second, previous
week winner Justin Haers was third. Fourth was Vince Vitale while
Derrick Podsiadlo was fifth.
Steve Gray was fast on the half mile
Canandaigua Speedway half-mile racing surface, winning the 25 lap
DIRTcar Sportsman feature. Gray was almost four seconds faster when he
cross the finish line ahead of second place finisher Daryl Hilkert.
Third was Karl Comfort followed by Paul Guererri and Dan Wiesner.
Mike Welch won for the third time in 2010 at
Canandaigua Speedway in the 25 lap DIRTcar Stock Car feature. Welch
went from third to first on lap 18 and finished two cars lengths ahead
of Chris Fisher at the finish. Third was Nate Peckham with Mike
Rasbeck fourth and Billy Coleman fifth in his first 2010 Canandaigua
Speedway action.
Alex Morris won his sixth feature of the 2010
season at Canandaigua Speedway in the 15 lap Pure Stock/Factory Stock
feature. Morris dedicated the win to his mother, who passed away
earlier in the week. Second was Roger Bush followed by George LaVare
Jr in third. Fourth was Ted Sweeney while Bryan Lyons.
LAND OF LEGENDS NOTES: Steve Paine(Modifieds);
Steve Gray (Sportsman); Chris Fisher (Stock Cars) and Alex Morris
(Pure Stocks/Factory Stocks) left the Canandaigua Speedway last
Saturday night with the points lead in each of their respective
divisions…The Stock Cars have seen a rise in the car counts in the
past two weeks with 14 drivers checking into the pit area on
Saturday…Just three weeks left in the regular season for the Land of
Legends.
Next Saturday, August 21, is Fire and Rescue
Recognition Night. All Fire and Rescuse personnel are admitted FREE
with proper ID to watch the DIRTcar Modified, Sportsman, BRP Late
Models, Stock Cars and Pure Stocks. “Home Track Rules” Stock Cars have
been added to the August 21 racing program after being left off the
original schedule. “The Stock Car class has consistently been the best
racing on the track week in and week out at The Land of Legends and
we have been very pleased with the growth of the class in recent weeks”,
said Cory Reed, Track G.M. “I can’t see leaving them at home for a
week coming off their two best weeks of the season.”
However, the format will be bit different for
the Stock Car class this week. The race will be a draw for heat race
starting spot. A redraw of top finishers in each heat will then juggle
the feature line-up. Home track rules will also apply allowing
drivers from other tracks to participate as they run weekly
elsewhere. It will not be a full points race, however, in a unique
twist, a driver will be allowed to use the race for points toward the
Canandaigua Speedway points championship if they fare well. Drivers will
be able to use their finish on August 21 to take the place of a worse
finish another other time during the year. Thus, if a driver had a
DNF earlier in the year, then won on August 21, the win would take the
place of the DNF. If the driver does not fare better on August 21
than any other finish, the finish will not add points to their season
total.
Adult admission is $12, Senior Citizens $10,
Student 18-10 and Active Military $5, Children 9 and under FREE. For

STEVE PAINE WINS AGAIN AT CANANDAIGUA SPEEDWAY. CAN HE BE STOPPED?
CANANDAIGUA, NY-It was another beautiful night at the Canandaigua
Speedway as beautiful weather greeted a good field of race cars and a
great crowd last Saturday evening. The BRP 360 Late Model Black
Rock/Canandaigua Challenge ran its second of the last three scheduled
2010 events at Canandaigua Speedway. For the second week in a row,
race officials didn’t have to fight Mother Nature in order to get its
race program completed as all racing action was concluded in less than
three hours. Bass Pro Shops of Auburn and race followers of DIRTcar
Sportsman driver Todd Henderson watched from the VIP Towers as race
sponsors while Bass Pro representative Shane Wilkinson threw the green
flag to start the Sportsman feature.
Probably the big story of the night was the
dominance of veteran DIRTcar big block Modified star Steve Paine. The
Waterloo, NY resident won his third straight main event and fifth of
the 2010 season. Paine took the lead on lap 14 from early leader Tim
Currier and maintained a safe lead through the remainder of the race.
Currier, who won his first DIRTcar big block Modified feature at
Canandaigua in June, looked impressive as he held on for second place.
Third was Derrick Podsiadlo followed by Charlie Donk and Vic Coffey.
Stock Car driver Chris Fisher took a well
deserved trip to victory lane Saturday night at Canandaigua Speedway
after a grueling 20 lap battle. Fisher ran the majority of the race
with a half track lead until a yellow flag was dropped with two laps
to go. During the green-white checkered Fisher had a run in on the
last lap with current Stock Car point leader Bubba Burnell. Fisher was
able to hold on as Bubba spun out on his back bumper, ending Bubba’s
night. Andy Fisk and Mike Rasbeck contributed in the battle as they
ran side-by-side for a second and third place finish. Jason Whipple
and Mike Welch finished out your top five.
The Dart Dirt BRP Late Models made their
return to the Land of Legends for another round of the Black
Rock/Canandaigua Challenge Series. Jeff Chesbro took the checkered
flag to make him one step closer to winning an all expense paid trip
to Hawaii. Adam DePuy gave Chesboro some pressure as he finished second.
Brian Kotarski, Dick Park Jr. and Jon Rivers round out your top five.
After a nine year hiatus Karl Comfort found
himself back in a familiar place as he rolled into victory lane. Even
with a nine year vacation from racing Comfort hasn’t missed a beat as
he dominated the track Saturday night. Steve Gray, Rob Bussey, Chris
Mangarelli and Tom Keyes claim the top five positions.
LAND OF LEGENDS NOTES: Vic Coffey, a two time
Rite Aid 200 DIRTcar big block Modified winner, has been at
Canandaigua Speedway for the past two weeks and ran to a fifth place
finish last Saturday. Coffey had been committed to his World of
Outlaws Late Model in past years but now seems to be staying closer to
home these days…Canandaigua Speedway will be closed this Saturday,
July 17th as the Cayuga County Fair Speedway will be hosting the
second annual All-Star Weekend. The track will reopen for racing on
Saturday, July 24th with a full card of racing. Canandaigua Speedway
will again close their gates on Saturday, July 31st as the Ontario
County Fair celebrates its fair days…Point leaders for the Canandaigua
Speedway are Modified-Steve Paine, Sportsman-Steve Gray, Stock
Cars-Frank Burnell Jr. and Factory Stocks/Pure Stocks-Alex Morris.
Fans that arrived to the track early were
given the chance to meet one of their favorite drivers as Modified
competitor Marcus Dinkins was on hand to sign autographs. The next
autograph session will take place on July 24 at the DIRTcar
Merchandise Trailer will be from 5:30-6:00. The popular event
continues to draw interest and helps race fans prepare for the night’s
activities.
Saturday July 24th will feature the 35-lap
Modified, Sportsman, BRP Late Model Black Rock/Canandaigua Challenge
Series and Pure Stock. Adult admission is $12. Senior Citizens $10.
Active Military and Students 10-18 are $5. Children nine and under are
FREE. For more information, please call our DIRTcar Northeast office
