Billy Dunn of Watertown, New York was the fastest on the track in the 35-lap Team Tiremasters Big-Block Modified feature as the veteran racing star made few mistakes after taking the lead on lap 22 of the scheduled 35 lap main event on Saturday night at Canandaigua Motorsports Park.

Kane Bristol (Safety Awareness Solutions Sportsman) and Paul Habeck (Castner Performance 305 Sprints) scored their first-ever wins on ADMAR Supply Company and Parts Plus Night at the fairgrounds, while Mike Welch (Parts Plus Street Stocks) continued his success in the full-fender ranks. Tim Barnard and Ray Hendershot added wins in a pair of Community Car Care of Waterloo New Legends Sportsman main events..

Dunn claimed his third win of the season. Matt Sheppard, who had to qualify through the consolation event and started 19th, made it up to second but didn‘t have enough to catch Dunn at the end.

“This sure feels good,” Dunn said in victory lane. “After the trouble we had a couple of weeks ago when we wrecked, it was nice to get the win tonight.”

Dunn started 12th when the feature began and was smooth throughout the entire race, moving into the top five on lap 13.

“The car was awesome. We won here about a month ago, but the car had been off since then. I hope that this will put a jump in our step.”

Brian Sage started on the pole and led the first 17 laps. Justin Wright then took over the lead. Meanwhile, Dunn moved into third, getting by Sage. Dunn used the inside lane on the back chute on lap 22 to go by Wright into the lead.

Sheppard moved into the runner-up position after a lap 26 restart and was looking to move toward the fast running Dunn, but to no avail.

Wright held on for an impressive third-place finish while Justin Haers finished fourth. Matt Fink, who ran in the top- five for much of the event, finished fifth.

Heat race winners were Matt Fink, Justin Wright and Mike O’Brien. Gil Tegg Jr won the consolation event.

Kane Bristol won a career first at CMP in the 25-lap Safety Awareness Solutions Sportsman feature.
Bristol, from Farmington, NY, took the lead with five laps remaining and ran on to post a comfortable victory. Bristol started ninth and took the lead after a restart from early leader AJ Lewis.

“I’m kind of lost right now,” laughed Bristol as he talked to CMP track announcer Shane Andrews. “I like the view from here.”

Bristol talked about the final caution of the race on lap 20.

“I wasn’t sure that I wanted to see a caution then. We were second and it would’ve been a good finish. When we restarted the race, I was hoping that he (Lewis) would go up high and he did.”

Jon Ellsworth led the first three laps before AJ Lewis took over the top spot. Lewis enjoyed a lead of nearly four seconds before the caution came out on lap 15. Bristol had just taken over the runner-up position before the yellow appeared.

Lewis held on to finish second followed by Paul Guererri. Rounding out the top-five were Steve Gray and Dan Wiesner.

Heat race winners were Matt Guererri, Nick Guererri and AJ Lloyd.

Welch is also sponsored by Parts Plus, one of the presenting sponsors for the night’s program.

“It’s always nice to win on a night when your sponsor is in the VIP booth,” Welch said. “I think the first time I ever did something like this was last year.”

“The car was good on the bottom tonight,” Welch added. “Jeremie (Corcoran, CMP promoter) always does a great job in getting this track ready.”

Derek Excell, who ran the first several weeks in the Pure Stock class before moving up to the Street Stock division, finished second. Third was Adam DePuy while Bill Weller, who also won the heat race, finished fourth. Fifth was Jack Terrell.

In Pure Stock action, Wayne Ellison won his third in a row in the 15-lap feature.

Ellison took the lead on lap three and powered on to the victory.

“This is a good problem to have,” Ellison said afterwards. “I was struggling earlier in the season, but we have this thing running good now.”

Ellison also said that he had a lot of incentive to improve his program.

”I had these younger drivers coming up to me and busting my chops a bit,” laughed Ellison. “I guess that gave me a lot of motivation.”

Marc Minutolo was second followed by Mike Minutolo Sr in third. Rounding out the top-five were Ken Cammage in his first finish at CMP and Roger Bush.

Heat race winners were Marc Minutolo and Eric Chapman.

Nick Cooper led the first six laps. Kelly Hebing was looking like she could take the checkered flag home, but was passed by Dreste on lap 16. On a lap 15 restart, Habeck became the fastest driver on the race track, immediately moving from fourth to second and challenging Dreste for the lead.

Dreste held on for second followed by Steve Doell Jr. Rounding out the top-five were points leader Darryl Ruggles and Charlie Donk.

Heat race winners were Darryl Ruggles and Steve Doell Jr.
