Drivers Set To 'Pass The Helmet' For March Of Dimes May 5 At Canandaigua
Finger Lakes Region MOD Chapter reps in attendance to promote 'March For Babies Walk'

Canandaigua, NY – May 1, 2012 – When drivers greet race fans at the track every weekend, they're readily available to provide an autograph or pose for a picture. More often than not this special encounter takes place pitside well after the final checkered flag has waved.

March of DimesMay 5 will be a much different scene at Canandaigua Motorsports Park as racers venture into the main grandstands during intermission to talk with loyal fans. Only on this unique occasion their primary mission will be to pass their helmets and collect monetary donations on behalf of the March of Dimes.

All money raised on Saturday will go directly towards the fundraising goals of the Canandaigua March for Babies Walk, scheduled May 12 at nearby Sonnenberg Gardens Historic Park on Charlotte Street in downtown Canandaigua. Families are encouraged to visit www.marchforbabies.org to learn more about the event, form a walk team and find out other ways they can help save babies.

An information table will be set up behind the grandstands at CMP and manned throughout the evening by MOD Community Director Mallory Cornett and Jennifer Post, who will answer questions and offer additional material about the March For Babies event taking place the following week.

The March of Dimes is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing premature birth and birth defects and helping mothers have healthy pregnancies. It was founded by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1938, originally created to develop a polio vaccine.

Today, the organization supports research and education programs across the country. In New York state, $0.81 of every dollar raised goes directly back into our regional program services. 1 in 8 babies are born prematurely in this state, many weighing between 1-4 lbs. At this size, the average wedding band can fit loosely around the baby’s bicep.

Canandaigua Motorsports Park www.canandaiguamotorsportspark.com is located at the Ontario Co. Fairgrounds, east of the city on Town Line Road (County Road 10), with easy access off either Exit 43 (Manchester, Route 21 South) or Exit 44 (Farmington, Route 332 South) of the New York State Thruway, just ½-hour southeast of Rochester.
